A liqueur is a compounded spirit. It is made from a base spirit with flavours, sweeteners and often colour added. Most liqueurs are intended for use in cocktails. Liqueurs come in 3 different varieties,

Rich Liqueurs such as Malibu (coconut), Baileys (cream), Kahlua (coffee), Frangelico (nuts) and Crème de Cacao (chocolate).

Fruit Liqueurs such as Midori (Melon), Cointreau or Curacao (citrus) or Cherry Brandy (cherries).

Herbal Liqueurs such as Crème de menthe (mint), Sambuca (aniseed) or Jagermeister (other herbs)
